Cedars-Sinai Medical Center provides surgical and outpatient experience in orthopaedic oncology, joint arthroplasty, adolescent sports medicine, and pediatric orthopaedics. With no on-call duty requirement, the Cedars rotation represents an excellent learning environment in elective orthopaedic reconstructive care.

Institutional support is extremely strong, with an administration commitment to strengthing and growing the Orthopaedic Center into a premier entity within the medical center. The 4 month format of the rotation provides an excellent opportunity for continuity of patient care from pre-admission through the post-discharge phase of care. A clinical or basic research project is required. It is expected that this be submitted for presentation at a regional or national meeting, and for publication.

Clinical management/rehabilitation pathways at Rancho have long stood as the defining standards of care throughout much of the orthopaedic world. This rotation provides orthopaedic rehab experience not obtainable in any other facility. Operative spine cases are performed with one of academic staff members, Gregory Yoshida MD.

The Shriners Hospital for Children provides training in the treatment of pediatric spinal and hip disorders, as well as congenital extremity disorders.

The volume and variety of pathology, coupled with superp attending staff, make this extremely well-liked rotation an essential core component of the pediatric orthopaedic training.

Facilities and institutional support is excellent at the Shriners hospital. An orthopaedic research project is required in the area of pediatric orthopaedic surgery. This will be presented at the Annual Scientific Program at the Shriners Hospital.

Training in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, as well as adult reconstruction/joint arthroplasty is the focus of the experience at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

Outpatient clinic experience is also provided in general orthopaedics as well as reconstruction. Primarily a population of male military veterans, the patient demographics offer a complement to the general population served by Harbor.

Attending staff are faculty members of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine. Attending coverage and teaching is excellent in these areas of elective adult reconstruction.
